TELANGANA NIGHT IN TORONTO, CANADA
Telangana Night was organized along with the Sankranthi
festival on January 13th 2007 at the Huron Park Community centre, Toronto
Canada. The Celebrations were organized by the Telangana Development Forum (TDF),
Canada chapter. Sri Madhu K Reddy, TDF President, USA was the Chief Guest
for the event. It was an amazing gathering where everyone was pleased to meet
and greet more than 120 people. The event had lot of games, activities and
competitions for children as well as adults.
The event was started
at 4 PM and went up till mid night. By 5 PM good number of people gathered and
everyone was overwhelmed to see all the excitement in the faces of ladies and
kids coming in Indian traditional dresses. The event started with welcome song by children. Chandra
Swargam welcoming all the guests mentioned that we celebrate Sankrantri for
the first harvest of the year where we use new harvested rice for the sweet
(Pulgam). He also gave brief history about Telangana movements.
Surender Peddi
anchored the event and he urged all the participants to introduce themselves.
The introductions were interspersed with witty remarks leading to bursts of
laughter. In cultural Programmes, dance by Depa Mounika (Varsham song)
and Eka Patraabinayam (Duryodhana) by Prabhakar Mettu have attracted all
the audience. Anjani Mettu and Sunitha Nerevetla conducted the
games and activities for the Children.
Madhu K Reddy,
TDF President, who came all the way came from New York, USA, said that he is
excited to see all the enthusiastic Canadian NRI Telanagites participating in
the Telangana night. While mentioning about the role TDF in the development activities,
he asked all the NRI Telanganites to take pro-active role in the developmental
activities in their back home villages and towns. He also mentioned that we
should use the modern technologies in the rural development.
Next, dinner was
served which was pot-luck and it was a great feast with an assortment of
traditional and mouth watering dishes including Pulagam, Pulihora and
Daddojanam, it was difficult to choose. Everyone literally feasted. Kudos to all the Ladies and the gentlemen
who helped them for providing a sumptuous dinner.
Vishweshwar Kalavala,
who is the founder of district groups like www.Karimnagar.org, expressed that
everyone should involve in the development of their respective districts. He
explained how the district groups are being involved in conducting eye camps,
health camps, seminars on higher and international education etc. and expressed
that every NRI should do something to their birth place.
Mohammed Shabir who came from Hamilton,
wished all the participants a Happy Sankranthi and said that the event reminds
him back home how people celebrating festivals together. Mahesh Madadi has
co-coordinated all the event activities. Shirisha Swargam while
addressing the audience expressed that it is the collective efforts of all
family members to make this organization grow in bigger way. Vivek Reddy,
Omkaram, Prabhaker were among the guest speakers. All the families
participated in the event with great enthusiasm and gaiety. They thanked the
organizers for arranging such a beautiful event and wished to see few more
events during the year.
Surender
Peddi in his vote of thanks congratulated all the participants
for making the event a great success and iterated that Telangana Development
Forum Canada will organize many more events and solicited every ones’ active involvement.
He thanked Madhu Reddy and Vishweshwar Kalavala for being able to come all the
way from USA. He invited all Telanganites living in Canada

The event was organized by Chandra Swargam, Surender Peddi and
Mahesh Madadi who have taken time out of their busy schedules to make it Grand
Success. They would like to extend thanks to Srikanth, Sunitha, Anjani,
Prabhakar, Shirisha, Ranjith and others who have worked hard to organize and
