- Irrigation projects benefiting Andhra at Telangana’s expense
- Irrigation projects in Telangana intended to benefit Telangana, but are
not viable. Will become failed projects

- Pulichintala
- Telugu Ganga
- Various other projects
|
|

|
- Pulichintala facts
- Originally 181 tmc of free waters allotted to Krishna delta for the
first crop
- The crisis is on account of draining both Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar
reservoirs in the name of power generation and giving water to Krishna
delta for 365 days with ulterior motives
|
|
5
|
- Against 181 tmc, the Krishna delta lobby is drawing more than 400 tmc by
emptying Nagarjunasagar and letting out the free waters available into
Bay of Bengal. The farmers under Nagarjunasagar are deprived of their
waters
|
|

|
- Constructing Pulichintala will Submerge
- 22 villages in Nalgonda and Guntur districts
- About 30,000 acres of land displacing 50,000 people
- Lot of Lime stone and Cement factories and some temples

- Original facts
- Telugu Ganga was originally constructed for supplying 15 TMC of water
to Chennai city for drinking by Maharashtra, Karnataka and AP each
contributing 5 TMC from the protected water allotted to them
- Present scenario
- There is no allotment for irrigation in AP under this canal where as
Veligodu, Potuluri Veerabrahmam, Somashila and Kandaleru balancing
reservoirs are together drawing more than 150 TMC out of protected
waters allotted to AP
|
|
9
|
- Other present facts
- They are also drawing more than 30 TMC to Right bank canal (SRBC) and
KC canal from Srisailam.
- They have illegally made outlets to Rajolibanda barrage and taking
waters meant for Mahabubnagar to Sunkesula barrage which is modernized
and the entire waters of Tungabhadra is being tapped from there.
- The above drawals are in addition to allotted protected waters under
Tungabhadra low level, high level canals and KC canal under Sunkesula
barrage.

- Other currently tenders called for projects
- Gundlakamma, Ramatheertha, Somasila, GuruRagavendra LIS, KCCMP,
Galerunagiri, Handri Neeva, Chitravati, SRSP – II and Veligonda
projects if constructed will draw the entire Krishna waters to
Rayalaseema that is to Penna leaving Telangana without any waters from
Srisailam reservoir
|
|
11
|
- Naming the Madhava Reddy LIS project as SLBC is really deceiving - It is
a Lift scheme on Nagarjunasagar consuming nearly 100 MW power.
- In fact SLBC thru tunnel was sanctioned in 1992 itself and it has got
all the clearances including environmental and forest clearances but the
present govt. has not taken up this project mischievously to deprive
Telangana.
|
|

|
- Sriramsagar Project stage 2 and flood flow canal planned will not get
any waters because Sriramsagar project since last 10 years is not
supplying more than 5 lakh acres land in Karimnagar and Warangal
districts. The canals dug earlier under stage I by Teleugu desam govt.
in Mahabubabad mandal was not supplied any waters and digging further
canals under stage II and flood flow would not get any waters
|
|
13
|
- LIS schemes on Krishna and Godavari such as Gupta, Halisagar, Devadula,
Nettampadu do not have reservoirs at the source and they need heavy
power for lifting and these are not useful for the people of Telangana
- The govt. by not constructing the sanctioned projects such as SLBC and
Tail pond dam under Nagarjunasagar appears to be intentionally depriving
Telangana farmers of water through gravity and knocking away these
waters to Andhra area by gravity
|
|

|
- A super thermal station supposed to be constructed at Manuguru of
Khammam district of Telangana was shifted to Vijayawada of Krishna
district in Andhra
- At present, Govt. is bent upon to add another 640 MW station at
Vijayawada with German collaboration. This will need more loads of coal
transportation and much more water from river Krishna
|
|
15
|
- Muddanuru Thermal station: It is constructed in the Cuddapah district of
Rayalaseema which is nearly 700 KM from coal fields
- Construction of 2000 MW thermal stations at Vizag and 1000 MW thermal
stations at Nellore ignoring the Telangana region where plenty of coal
is available
|
|
16
|
- As the lifting of Godavari waters for drinking and agriculture is an
urgent need, at least a 2000 MW thermal station is to be constructed at
Bhupalpalli. A pit head station should be constructed which is the load
center for the lift irrigation schemes
- Till the above station comes up, National Thermal Power Corporation
(NTPC) has to supply the power needed for these lift irrigation schemes
of Godavari
|
|
17
|
- One more 2000 MW atomic power plant has to be constructed in Adilabad
district beyond Sirpurkagaznagar where the water is available,
population is less, and sufficient waste lands can be used for this
purpose
- Hydel power on Godavari on all the projects to be constructed at
Kaleswaram, Kanthalapalli, Dummugudem and other barrages should be taken
up and finished in 10 years
|
|
18
|
- Recovery of power spent on lift irrigation schemes of Godavari waters by
erecting hydel stations on check dams on Godavari and Krishna
tributaries should be taken up
- Development of non-conventional energy such as Solar power, mini-hydel
power, bio mass power, bio diesel power should be taken up
